Dental aesthetics

Estética dental

Dental aesthetics is one of the most effective treatments to improve appearances, as a beautiful smile with healthy teeth often improve the sense of well being and self esteem.   Many of the dental treatments are esthetically based, since the new resin products used are invisible, compared to the former amalgam restoration, thus allowing the appearance of the tooth to be as natural as the color of the original teeth.  Both crowns and permanent implants will have the appearance of natural teeth.

Dentaln Prosthetics

Single fixed prothetics (crowns)

Prótese unitária Suggestions and indications:
  • For fractured or cracked teeth
  • For teeth with many cavities

Treatment:
When the crown is placed over the tooth, it covers it and restores the original shape and form of the tooth.  Prior to the crown placement, the cavities are removed and a mold of the tooth is sent to the lab, where a model of the tooth is made.
From this mold a metal or porcelain crown is made which then will ultimately be affixed to the tooth.  The crown should always be placed on the tooth before it becomes too cracked or too full of cavities.  This preventive response may prevent future expenses of a root canal.  This early treatment may prevent future need for extraction of the tooth and further investment of a bridge or implant.

Advantage:
See above

Permanent prosthetics

prótese fixa

The partial or total restoration of the crown is the permanent replacement of one or more teeth.  There is advanced preparation in order for the prosthetic to be affixed.  Then the patient can smile, speak and eat with ease, knowing the tooth (or teeth)  are permanently place and need not be removed.

Suggestions and indications:
  • for missing tooth or teeth
  • misallignment of the teeth or poorly formed teeth.
  • missing teeth
  • the desire to chew properly
  • the desire for permanent replacement of detures

Treatment:
The permanent prosthetic generally is affixed to two permanent teeth.  The new prostheses is developed in the lab and made to replace the gap in the dental structure.

Advantage:
The bridge is never removed as is the case with dentures.  The new teeth function as regular teeth. This is an excellent investment as it assists in the patient’s ability to chew, as well as it greatly improves the patient’s appearance.

1

Temporary Bridges

This prosthetic bridge is removable, even though there are some permanent teeth remaining.  The patient may remove the bridge at any time,  then reposition it back in the mouth.

Dentures
dentaduras

Total dentures requires to permanent removal of all teeth and the replacement with one or more types of devices.

Two different materials are used to make dentures. Most professionals prefer the use of the acrylic resin, as it does not produce residual noise when the patient speaks or chews. The dentures are less likely to crack. Some of the disadvantages would be the change of color, the greater need for dental hygiene and wear.

The porcelain teeth have a greater stability in color and ease to clean. The wear is insignificant, but there is a residual sound while eating and talking.

protese total

Suggestions and indications:

  • missing tooth or teeth
  • problems with chewing of the bite
  • desire to imporve chewing
  • desire to have a more permanent solution instead of dentures.

Treatment:
This implant procedure substitutes for the root of a regular tooth.  The implant is surgically placed into the jaw bone and an artificial tooth is placed over it, creating the appearance of a regular tooth.  In case there are more than one tooth two options are possible:  various single implants my be place or a series of artificial teeth may be used instead, in other  words, a fixed bridge.

Advantage:
The implant with artificial teeth is the nearest to a normal, natural dental structure.  The teeth are strong, lasting and not noticeable.  While filling the gap, these new teeth also assist in improving the bite and better ability to chew.  This is indeed a better solution than removable dentures.

Disadvantage:
Although implants are the best solution, they do require surgery  and recovery, which initially are more expensive, however the ease, general dental health and long term benefits outweigh the initial cost.
